CAMPTON-Vladimir Vascak, (60 ) of Campton, New Hampshire passed away at home following a lengthy illness on Wednesday September 2, 2015. Vladimir was born on January 5, 1955 in Czechoslovakia, the son of Andrej and Albina Vascak. While After growing up in Czechoslovakia, Vlad became an Air Traffic Controller, rising to the level of supervisor in Bratislava. He earned his engineering degree in physics and technical education at Comenius University and continued his avid passion for aviation and physics by completing his Air Traffic Certification at the National Air Traffic Control Training Center in Prague. In 1989, he moved to Philadelphia, working various jobs, until moving to Waterville Valley in 1994. While working at Waterville Valley as a ski instructor, he met his beloved wife Cynthia, and they were married on January 8, 1995. After their honeymoon in Prague, they returned home to Plymouth, eventually moving to Campton, New Hampshire to start their lives together. Vladimir worked for many years at the Wreath School, teaching mathematics and technology while earning his MED in Special Education at Plymouth State University. He continued his work with young people, as a technology educator at Gilford Middle School. While working for the Gilford School District, he also coached the high school girl’s tennis team, started an after school chess enrichment program, and led an innovative experiential STEM integration initiative in the technology curriculum. He also taught Arts and Technology as a teaching lecturer at Plymouth State College for graduate and undergraduate education students. Vladimir was an accomplished educator dedicated to his students. He enabled them to discover their talents, creativity, and capabilities within the fascinating realm of technology – including teaching them about robotics and aviation. He was also an avid athlete and sportsman with a passion for skiing, tennis, bicycling, golf, and karate. He loved nature, the mountains, hiking, and traveling. He held a lifelong fascination with aviation, and was a founding board member for WinnAero, the Aviation and Aerospace Education Center based at Laconia Airport (LCI) on the picturesque shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. He was a deeply caring and cherished friend, who loved preparing special meals, playing music, helping others, and sharing stories. Vladimir brought great joy, passion, inspiration and caring to all his family, friends, and colleagues with a heart full of love and a giving spirit to the very end. Vladimir is survived by his wife Cynthia of Campton, his mother; Albina Vasakova, of Stara Lubovna, Slovakia; two children; Peter Vascak of Campton and Chicago and Gabriela Slosarova and her husband Daniel of Bratislava, Slovakia, two grandchildren; Martin Slosar and Simonka Slosarova of Bratislava, and two brothers; Jaro and Ondrej of Slovakia. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to made in Vladimir’s memory to establish an International Study Scholarship Fund at Plymouth State University. The Fund will help both undergraduate and graduate students realize their dreams for study abroad, as well as open opportunities for coursework, research, and/or service involving international locations and partnerships.
