MEREDITH ~ David E. Porter, (60) of 125 Edgerly School Road, died suddenly at Concord Hospital on Tuesday August 4, 2015. David was born on February 1, 1955 in Salem, Massachusetts, the son of Ronald and Jane (Litch) Porter. David graduated from the Peabody Vocational Technical High School in 1973. In 1970, Dave’s father and step mother, Ron and Shirley Porter, started Portlyn Corporation, a small machine shop in Lynn, Mssachusetts, where David worked while still in high school. Soon after graduating, David began his 45 year career in machining and engineering. Despite his lack of formal education in the field, David showed a natural ability in his craft. Portlyn was a commercial machine shop that was subcontracted to deliver very small, precise components. This allowed David to hone his skills as a machinist. In 1980, David and his wife Suzanne moved to Sandwich, NH with their daughter Jennifer. He eventully took over as President of Portlyn, before a merger with a larger company. His role then became primarily contract negotiations. In 1990 David married Sally Tracy and along with his son Jason and Sally’s daughters Sara and Melanie. They lived in Sandwich until moving to Meredith in 2003. David loved to spend time with his family, whether on vacations, boating, or simply relaxing at his home with his dogs. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides with Sally and friends from the Winnipasaukee H.O.G. chapter. Family members include David’s parents; Ronald and Jane Porter of Laconia and Alton respectively, his wife Sally of Meredith, his children; Jennifer Curtin and her husband Brian, of Hampstead, New Hampshire, and Jason Porter of Fairfax, Vermont. Stepchildren; Sara McMillan and her husband Wade of Greenwood, Indiana, Melanie Leathers and her husband Daniel of Concord, New Hampshire. Three sisters; Susan Croteau of Peabody, Massachusetts, Lisa Hill of Marlboro, Massachusetts, Leanne Brunelle, of Meredith, New Hampshire and five loving grandchildren; Caeley, Michael, Jack, Gwen, and Brian.
