Ruth M. Young of Buffalo Road, Rumney NH, passed away July 7, 2015 at her home. Born on May 24th 1922 in Danvers MA, Ruth was the only child of George and Annie (Churchill) Dolby. In 1931 the Dolby family moved to Rumney. Ruth graduated from Rumney Elementary School in 1936, Plymouth High School in 1940, and Plymouth Teachers College, now Plymouth State University, in 1944. Because of the demand for teachers during World War II, she took the Accelerated Course enabling her to teach during her Senior Year, making up the credits at summer school in 1943 in Keene and in 1944 at Plymouth. She taught grades 1-4 at a one room school house in Beebe River for two years. On November 1st 1945, Ruth and Donald Arthur Young were married at the Rumney Baptist Church. They lived in Portsmouth NH for four years while Don attended the University of New Hampshire before moving to Rumney where they raised their family. In 1968 Ruth returned to teaching. She taught 2nd grade at Newfound Elementary School in Bristol NH for eighteen years, retiring in 1986. Always civic minded Ruth served the Town of Rumney for many years as town and school auditor, librarian, library and cemetery trustee, advisory board member at the Rumney Historical Society and supervisor of the checklist. In 2008 a grateful community presented her with a clock to commemorate her many years of service. Family and friends were very important to Ruth. She enjoyed her life as a mother, homemaker, and teacher and spent much time cooking, sewing, and reading. Ruth organized many family gatherings and spent much time preserving her family history. For many years Ruth was a devoted member of the Rumney Baptist Church serving as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and Ernest Worker member. She served the Mt. Stinson 4-H club as project leader and was a life time member of the Baker River Grange in Rumney. She was a member of the Rumney Historical Society, NH Retired Educators Association, Lakes Region Retired Education Association, and the National Education Association. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years and their daughter Donna R. Kidney. She is survived by two sons, Clayton R. Young and his wife Carol of Wentworth NH and Brian G. Young and his wife Karen of Campton NH, a daughter, Karen A. Young and her companion, Douglas W. Bruning of Groton NH, fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, friends and neighbors, all beloved by her..
