Rudell Owen Hawkins, Sr., 88, a longtime former resident of Ashland, NH, died March 16, 2015, at his home in Raymond, NH., after a long illness. Born in Dummer, NH. on August 11, 1926, he was the son of Charles A. and Margaret (Bissett) Hawkins. Rudell grew up in the Dummer, and Milan area and attended Dummer Schools. He resided in Ashland from 1948 to 1991 and has been a resident of Raymond since 1991. Rudell worked in the former Ashland Paper Mill for many years. He became an automobile mechanic and worked at several dealership over the years such as; Grappone Ford, in Concord, NH, Meredith Ford, in Meredith, NH, and the former Deming’s Chevrolet, in Plymouth, NH. Rudell was a proud US Army World War II veteran and had served in the battle of Iwo Jima. He earned the Philippine Campaign Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WW2 Victory Medal. Rudell was a longtime member of the Free Will Baptist Church, in Ashland, a member and past Master of the Mount Prospect Masonic Lodge #69, and a member and past Patron the Mount Hope Order of Eastern Star, both formerly of Ashland. He was also a member of the Dupuis Cross American Legion Post #15, Ashland. Rudell had also served as an auxiliary police officer in Ashland. Rudell loved to play the guitar and sing country music, go out dancing, go antiquing, and loved to yodel. He was also known for making the best peanut butter fudge in the area. Rudell is predeceased by his wife of forty-two years, Ramona M. (Lindsey) Hawkins, who died in 1990. Rudell is survived by his son, Rudell O. Hawkins, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Laconia, daughters, Sharon B. Reed of Holderness, NH, Valerie J. Niggl and her husband Robert of Port Charlotte, FL., Deborah M. Warnock and her husband Steven of Epping, NH., 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters, Norma Madeau of Watertown, CT., Ramona Woodward of Dummer, NH, many nieces and nephews and his longtime companion of twenty-four years, Evelyn G. Arnold of Raymond.
