Catherine J. McGarry, 90, of Meredith, passed away peacefully at Forestview Manor, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Catherine was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 17, 1923; she was the twin daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth (Armstrong) McGarry. She was raised in Brooklyn where she attended local schools. Before relocating to Meredith, Catherine worked as a telephone operator, school crossing guard, and as a switchboard operator. Upon moving to Meredith she helped her daughter Pat at the Meredith Station Mobil for several years where she was known affectionately by the customers as “Mom”. Catherine enjoyed many fun camping trips with her family throughout her life; at Forestview she loved to play Bingo and dancing when musical entertainment was scheduled. Catherine was a very kind and outgoing individual who was loved by all who met her. She was extremely proud of being from Brooklyn, NY as well as her Irish heritage. She was predeceased by her first husband Albert J. Palmer, in 1962, and her second husband, William H. McGarry, Jr., in 2001; brother, John McGarry, and sister, Sister Joan Therese McGarry, CSJ. Surviving family members include her twin sister, Gertrude Davignon, of West Springfield, MA; son, Kevin T. Palmer and wife Wendy, of Granby, MA; daughter, Mary E. Nadeau and husband Richard, of Chicopee, MA; daughter, Patricia A. Wade and husband Charles, of Meredith; grandchildren, Matthew and Kristen Palmer, of Granby, MA, Nathan and David Nadeau, of Chicopee, MA, and Joshua and Tyler Wade, of Meredith; she is also survived by several nephews. Catherine’s family will be forever grateful to the staff at Forestview Manor for the tender loving care that they provided Mom for the past five years, as well as Dr. Suarez and the staff at the S.P.S. Unit at LRGH and Central NH VNA & Hospice for the care and compassion that they also provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the Central NH VNA & Hospice, 724 N. Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246
