John Alexander Thompson, 81, of Wentworth, passed away on August 1, 2013 at the VA Hospital in White River Junction, VT.
John was born on December 29, 1931 in Keene, NH, the son of George A. and Lucy (Chandler) Thompson. He was raised on the family farm and attended local schools in Keene.
In his teen years he was a member of the Junior Police. He served three years in the NH National Guard before joining the US Marines during the Korean War. John studied horticulture at UNH and received an Associate’s Degree in the Science of Horticulture; he went on to become a tree surgeon and worked throughout the state of NH in his own tree service and logging business. For many years he served on the Volunteer Fire Department of Wentworth as the Deputy Fire Chief.
Throughout his life he enjoyed motorcycle riding, flying (he had a student pilot’s license for a time), hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice (Fosdick) Thompson; three daughters, Linda Rose and husband Arthur, of Canterbury, Laura Thompson, of Keene, and Kay T. Bailey and husband Rick Bailey, of Deerfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
