MEREDITH— Mary J. Hayes, (94) passed away peacefully on April 10, 2016 with her daughter Janie and son-in- law Ken, by her side. Mary was born April 6, 1922 in Manchester, New Hampshire, the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Slovik) Lobacki. Mary was raised in Manchester, graduated from Manchester Central High School and later moved to Peterborough, New Hampshire with her family. Shortly thereafter, she started working at the First National Bank, now People’s United Bank. In 1964, she was appointed as an officer of the bank and held that position until she retired in 1988. After she retired, she and her husband moved to their home on Lake Winnipesaukee’s Meredith Bay and spent their winters at their home in Englewood, Florida. Mary was an active member of St. Peters Church in Peterborough and St. Charles Borromeo in Meredith. She belonged to, and was the longest serving member of, the American Legion Auxiliary #5 in Peterborough for the past 71 years. She also belonged to the Englewood Droves #203 in Englewood and the Deborah Hospital Foundation in Florida. She is survived by her daughter Jane M. Costa and husband Kenneth of Meredith, her son John L. Hayes and wife Marjorie of Atkinson, New Hampshire, four grandchildren: Dr. Karen Costa of Pittsburgh, PA., Michael Costa and close friend Tiffany Beaulieu of Dover, N.H., Steven Costa and wife Jennifer of Denver, CO., Lance Hayes and wife Shannon, of Christiansted, St Croix, US Virgin Islands, her sister-in-law, Barbara Lobacki of Peterborough, and several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, John, who passed away in 2008, as well as her parents and brother Edward Lobacki.
