George Delaney

George Basil Delaney, 89, of Quincy Road, Rumney, died October 23, at his home surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer. Born in Grafton, West Virginia on October 25, 1925, he was the son of George Samuel and Rebecca (Purkey) Delaney. George grew up in Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School, Grafton, WV. He resided in Danielson, CT for many years and has been a resident of Rumney since 1971. George worked for many years as a foreman supervisor at the Glass Container Manufacturing Company, in Danielson Connecticut. During his retirement, George worked for the Town of Rumney as a sexton for the town cemeteries. George was a member of the West Rumney Community Church, West Rumney, member and past chaplain of the Lamott-Kenneson American Legion Post #76, in Wentworth. He also served Rumney Veterans Committee and worked on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and he also served the town as the Fire Commissioner. George was a World War II US Navy veteran. George was predeceased by his son, Richard W. Delaney and his daughter, Chris Ann Davis, who died in 1996 his brother, Richard Delaney, and his sisters, Helen Withers and Jean Jackson. George is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years Maxie Lorraine (Rogers) Delaney of Rumney, his daughter, Cathy L. Day and her husband John, of Dorchester, his grandchildren, William A. Cote, Jeremy J. Cote, Rebecca J. Robinson, Vanessa M. Davis, and Katy L. Cote, eleven great grandchildren, brothers, John Delaney and William Delaney, both of Maryland, sisters, Rosemary Goss of Texas, Patricia Mason and Sandra Lou Delaney, both of West Virginia, many nieces and nephews.
