Donald Leonard Allen, 85, of Pittsfield, NH, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Concord Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born on June 30, 1929, in Montville, CT, he was the son of George and Myrtle (Davis) Allen. Donald was raised in Mystic and attended local schools. At the age of 17, Donald enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and proudly served with honor during the Korean War, honorably discharged in 1956 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Donald resided in Ledyard, CT, for many years and worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat Co., in Groton, CT, for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He was a Master Mason with the Blue Lodge of Masons, in Preston, CT, and also a member of the Gales Ferry-Ledyard American Legion Post 205, and he was a dedicated Deacon with the Gales Ferry Baptist Church. In 2006, Donald and his wife Edna retired to Pittsfield, NH. Donald will be lovingly remembered by his family as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he will be dearly missed. He is predeceased by several siblings, his brothers, Henry R., James C., and Dwayne Allen; his sisters, Conrada Avery, and Ruth Wooten. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Edna Josephine (Babcock) Allen, of Pittsfield; seven children, Genette D. Gerow, Henry R. Allen and wife Lori, all of Groton, CT, Richard C. Allen, Robert C. Allen, and Helen M. Brown and husband James, all of Pittsfield, NH, Thomas J. Allen, of Montville, CT, and Grace Tolman and her husband Frank, of Plymouth, NH; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
