Shirley Schneider

Shirley Corson Schneider, 93, of Moultonborough, passed away on July 21st. She was cared for until the very end at her lakeside home by family, friends and the wonderful nurses from Central NH VNA and Hospice. Shirley was born on June 15, 1921 in Utica, New York to the late Sidney and Florence (Struve) Corson. Shirley graduated from Utica Free Academy and was employed at Rome Army Air Base, in Rome, NY during World War II. She met her late husband Walter A. Schneider from Manchester, NH while he attended Colgate University. She married Walter in 1946 after he returned from World War II Walter and Shirley moved to Bedford, NH where they raised their 3 children. Her husband Walter was president of Gus Schneider Inc., in Manchester. Shirley was a long time parishioner at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, in Manchester, where she served on the alter guild. She had also been a 50+ year member of the Epsilon Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Shirley was a member of the Ruth Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Manchester Women’s Club. She formally served on the Board of Directors of the Y.W.C.A and the Manchester Children’s Home (now called the Webster House). After moving to Bedford in 1946 Shirley summered in Moultonborough on Lake Winnipesaukee in Greens Basin with her husband and children. She permanently moved to Moultonborough in 1989. She is survived by her son, Walter Scott Schneider and wife Beth, of Truro, Nova Scotia; her daughters, Diane Schneider, of Moultonborough, and Jill Schneider Alexander and husband Aaron, of Moultonborough; grandson, Anson Alexander, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; granddaughter, Chelsea Schneider, of Truro, Nova Scotia; grandsons, Justin Schneider, of Truro, Nova Scotia, and Aaron Schneider and wife Suzannah Collins Schneider, of Snoqualmie, Washington; and her two great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Lochlain Schneider, of Snoqualmie, Washington. She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews. For those who wish, the family suggests that donations be made to the Central NH VNA and Hospice in Laconia, the Lakes Region Humane Society, in Ossipee, or the Shriners Hospital for Children, in Boston or Springfield, MA.
