Joyce Ann Harkins, 64, died in her home in Wentworth, New Hampshire on December 20th following a long battle with cancer.
Joyce was born in Shirley, MA, and was the beloved daughter of the late Richard and Rita (Gilmarten) Harkins.
She is survived by her friend and companion of thirty-three years, Joseph Lisandrillo. She was the mother of Wade and Bret Sutton, and sister of Judy McDougal, and David and Brian Harkins (and late brother Edward Harkins). She was also a grandmother to seven beloved grandchildren, and aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Joyce first moved to the greater Plymouth area in 1971, moved away in 1976, and after living in Florida for fifteen years, returned and made the area her permanent home in 1989. She never met an animal she didn’t like and her various homes served as a refuge to numerous cats, dogs, birds, and other animals. She enjoyed gardening, craft making, and in later years took up beading, making jewelry that she gave as gifts to countless women both in this area and throughout the country. Joyce was also active from time to time in Community Theater, and for a while performed with a local musical group.
Before her illness Joyce was employed as an at-home caregiver who specialized in providing care for the elderly with special needs and individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Joyce was a follower of the Baha’i Faith and a traditional Baha’i prayer was offered in her honor immediately following her passing. A Celebration of Life will be held in Joyce’s honor at her residence in early spring with details to be made available at a later date.
Donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to Pemi-Baker Community Health, 101 Boulder Point Drive, Suite 3, Plymouth, NH 03264.
